Preserving Heritage, Defining Future
The story of Ranisa Boutique began over a decade ago in the winding alleys of Jaipur’s Old City and has now found its new home in the heart of Uttarakhand. Inspired by the regal attire of the Rajput queens—known as ‘Ranis’—our founder set out to create a brand that would bring this royal splendor to every woman's wardrobe. We noticed that in the rush of mass production, the soul of Indian craftsmanship was being lost. The delicate hand-embroidery, the natural dying processes, and the community-based artisan networks were disappearing. Ranisa was born to bridge this gap, modernizing traditional ethnic wear while keeping its spiritual and cultural core intact.
At the heart of Ranisa Boutique are our artisans. We work with over 150 master craftsmen and women across rural Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. Many of these individuals belong to families that have practiced their craft for seven generations. By partnering with us, they gain a global platform to showcase their work, ensuring that traditional techniques like Chikankari, Kantha stitch, and Hand-block printing continue to thrive. We are committed to a ‘People First’ philosophy, which means we prioritize fair trade, regular skill-development workshops, and a safe, inclusive working environment for every person in our supply chain.
We believe that luxury starts with the fiber. Every season, we travel to different weaving clusters in India—from the silk looms of Varanasi to the cotton fields of South India—to hand-select the raw materials for our collections. We specialize in ‘Mulmul’ (fine muslin), which was historically known as ‘woven air’ for its lightness. Our commitment to quality means we avoid synthetic blends wherever possible, opting instead for biodegradable fibers that age gracefully. When you hold a Ranisa garment, you can feel the differences in weight, texture, and breathability that only natural fabrics can provide.
— Founder, Ranisa Boutique
Sustainability is not a buzzword for us; it is our foundation. We operate on a ‘Slow Fashion’ model, producing limited quantities to minimize waste and ensure each piece is perfect. Our dying units use eco-friendly, AZO-free dyes that don’t harm the local water systems. Furthermore, we are progressively working towards a zero-waste studio by repurposing fabric scraps into accessories like potli bags and hair bands. We believe that by creating durable, high-quality garments that last for decades, we are encouraging a more conscious and sustainable way of consuming fashion.
As we look ahead, Ranisa Boutique aims to become a global destination for Indian contemporary fashion. We are expanding our digital presence to reach fashion enthusiasts across continents, while remaining rooted in our local artisan communities. Our upcoming projects include a dedicated digital archive of Indian textile patterns and a series of collaborative collections with contemporary artists. No matter how much we grow, our core value remains the same: to deliver elegance that is ethical, cultural, and profoundly beautiful.
